Good afternoon, dear saxophonists!
Today I took my saxophone in my hands (a good instrument, Selmer) and felt that something was wrong; it sounded somehow not right. I checked keys C3 and C5 — the pads move slightly over the tonehole when you touch them by hand; checking against the light — light passes through key C5 (!).
By the way, the day before at an event I heard something like a whistle, an overtone in the upper register. I also felt these keys — I doubted them because when pressing them with my fingers the overtone disappeared.
Friends, pay attention to your instrument. Sometimes a student does everything correctly, but there is no ease of tone production — this means you need to look at other factors (state of the reed, mouthpiece, instrument, etc.). Calmly perform an inspection — I made a light source from an adapter and an LED strip (I will write in another article how to quickly make a glowing strip). Insert a glowing cord into the instrument and see whether light passes from closed keys.
And only when everything is checked — take the saxophone in your hands and enjoy the sound!!!
